First glimpse of the DA 150 is very satisfying due to it’s high quality finish. The cylinders, pistons and crankshaft are not from industrial sources but specially designed by Desert Aircraft and manufactured by specialist companies exclusively for DA.

The long conrod with the gudgeon pin mounted very near the piston crown allows the high torque output to be transferred with the minimum of piston side thrust, thereby reducing drag and wear.

The totally normal DA 150 has a higher output than the Special Edition 160cc engine from another manufacturer.

With the first place in 1999 World Aerobatic Masters as well as the TOC 2000, the DA 150 has proved it’s superiority in choice as a power unit for large aerobatic models.

To show what pilots using DA engines can achieve is the end results in the last TOC, 1st and 2nd place went to DA engines. 15 from the 21 entrants used DA engines, 14 from these used the DA 150. Champion was Chip Hyde with the DA 200, this engine is only in the development stage at the present time.

Steve Holland deservedly won the best of show award at the 2003 la Ferté-Alais, with such a realistic and elegant flight performance I have never seen before. The DA 150 pulls the 30 kilo, half-scale Zlin 526 effortlessly through all manouvers.

The piston, conrod and crankshaft has been designed with a computer simulation programme. These parts are perfectly balanced and harmonized to each other. The DA 150 has the lowest vibration levels possible over the entire throttle range.

The most prominent feature, as is the case with the DA 100, is the very long crankcase. The third bearing sits right behind the propellor hub. The very long and stiff crankshaft housing makes installation easy.

Every single crankcase is CNC milled from the solid in high tensile aircraft aluminium 7075-T6. In comparison to die casting a vastly more expensive process in time and materials. The CNC method has the very distinct advantage over die casting in that tolerances are very much closer and ensures a perfect alignment of the crankshaft as well as an overall greater stiffness and strength. All requirements for a high performance long life engine. You must agree upon seeing the DA 150 that it looks so good, it is a pity to cover it up with a cowl.

The reliable Desert Aircraft battery ignition unit has of course automatic advance and retard that makes starting so very easy and ensures maximum power. This unit is completely screened.
